Here is a spotlight on our talented storytellers for Saturday.
Rose Baldwin is a Midwesterner—often plainspoken, sometimes thickheaded occasionally insightful. She has been a joker, a daydreamer and a scribbler all her life. She’s worked in banking, taught finance and worked for the federal government. In all cases her bosses thought she would be happier doing something else—writing maybe.
Her fiction appeared in Creative Wisconsin and for several years she worked as a staff writer for The Burlington Standard Press and a stringer for other Southern Wisconsin newspapers. She is currently working on a collection of poems and fictional short stories about the adventure of exploring the foreign land called “Old Age.” Her book Flirting With Destiny, though unpublished, was praised by several people not related to her.
She has attended writing classes at the Writer’s Studio at the University of Chicago and at University of Wisconsin, Madison; has a a Masters of Business Administration from University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach. Since August 2014 she has called Rancho Mirage home.

Jake speaks frankly about his transition to the desert.
“After downing the bitter caffeine of the hard-boiled Koffi cafe, the desert’s clear skies, looming mountains and “Streetcar” like heat keep my fingers pounding away at the keyboard.”
His stories have been published in “34th Parallel” magazine and “The Seattle Examiner.” In July 2013, Jake’s monologue, “I Was Saved By The Ladies Of The Night,” was selected to be staged as part of Georgia State University’s “Coping: An Evening of LGBTQ Shorts.” In addition to acting in a wild array of plays in Los Angeles, Jake has performed solo works in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
