Start

The Palm Springs Art Museum is proud to present David Hockney: Perspective Should Be Reversed: Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, an exhibition featuring over 160 works by one of the most influential artists of our time. On view from November 23, 2024, to March 31, 2025, this comprehensive showcase represents the largest survey of Hockney’s prints ever exhibited, offering visitors a rare glimpse into six decades of the artist’s creative journey.

The exhibition highlights Hockney’s mastery across a range of mediums, including traditional prints, collages, Polaroid photography, and digital drawings created on iPhones and iPads. Renowned for his constant innovation, Hockney has pushed the boundaries of art-making by embracing new technologies and unconventional perspectives. His work challenges viewers to see the world in fresh and unexpected ways. Jordan D. Schnitzer, a leading collector and supporter of the arts, noted Hockney’s unique ability to merge technology and creativity:

“To many, David Hockney is the most important artist working today. His images take us on a journey through country roads and gardens and let us view his exploration of perspective. More than any other artist, he has used technology to create art.”

The exhibition is part of the museum’s Q+ Art initiative, a major program dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ voices in the arts. Through exhibitions, public programs, and collection-building, Q+ Art foregrounds the contributions of LGBTQ+ artists, aligning perfectly with Hockney’s work as a gay man who has consistently explored themes of identity and freedom. Adam Lerner, JoAnn McGrath Executive Director of the Palm Springs Art Museum, emphasized the significance of this connection:

“Hockney’s work challenges viewers to see the world through his unique lens, embracing both artistic and personal freedom.”

Visitors can expect to experience a vibrant array of works that reflect Hockney’s fascination with color, perspective, and human connection. From intimate portraits to sweeping landscapes, each piece offers insight into his evolving artistic practice and enduring influence.
