James Bacchi Celebrates 40 Years in Art

Start

Palm Springs’ thriving art scene gains new depth this summer as veteran gallerist James Bacchi celebrates a landmark 40 years in the contemporary art business with ANTHOLOGY—a rotating group exhibition now on view at JAMES BACCHI CONTEMPORARY, located at The Shops at Thirteen Forty Five.

The exhibition is more than a celebration; it’s a living archive of Bacchi’s four-decade journey, featuring works by gallery artists spanning his curatorial career in New York, San Francisco, and now Palm Springs. Some of these artists date back to Bacchi’s very first exhibition in New York’s East Village in 1985.

ANTHOLOGY represents a culmination of my curating and presenting contemporary art for four decades,” says Bacchi. “This ongoing experience of discovering and nurturing such outstanding artists, some dating back to my first show in New York, is exhilarating.”

Since opening his Palm Springs gallery, Bacchi has earned swift recognition for bringing bold, bi-coastal perspectives to the desert art world. His curatorial style—elevating contemporary California and New York-based artists—has been lauded by collectors and critics alike. Art writer Michael Davis recently praised Bacchi’s visionary eye, saying:

“For James Bacchi, whose visionary curation has been instrumental in shaping the Palm Springs art scene, MCM Monsters represents another milestone in his mission to elevate contemporary art discourse. Building on the success of previous exhibitions like THE HEATand JAZZED, Bacchi continues to push boundaries with a keen eye for talent and innovation.”

ANTHOLOGY not only honors Bacchi’s legacy, but it also serves as a creative platform for the next wave of contemporary art, evolving throughout its run with new works and fresh perspectives.

ANTHOLOGY at JAMES BACCHI CONTEMPORARY now through August. The gallery is open Thursday through Monday, 11 AM to 5 PM, at The Shops at Thirteen Forty Five, Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.
