Sunburned

Heats Up the Desert Art Scene at Flat Black Gallery
Start

This late summer, Palm Desert’s Flat Black Gallery is turning up the heat — literally and artistically — with its new group exhibition, Sunburned. Opening Saturday, August 30, the show brings together 17 artists who channel the intensity, color, and energy of the desert under the California sun.

Curated by gallery owner Pete Salcido, Sunburned blends urban art, sculpture, illustration, and contemporary creativity into one immersive experience. “Flat Black has always been about community and culture,” Salcido says.

Sunburned is more than just an art show — it’s a celebration of creativity, diversity, and the stories that connect us to this universal end-of-summer feeling.”

Among the highlights is the gallery debut of an 11-year-old spray paint prodigy, whose first professional pieces will hang alongside seasoned local and international artists. His presence underscores Flat Black’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent and supporting the next generation of creative voices.

Opening night promises more than just a visual feast. Attendees will enjoy a live DJ set, drinks, and an electric community atmosphere — the perfect backdrop to meet the artists and explore works that range from vivid murals to striking sculptures.

The exhibition runs through September 12, offering art lovers a chance to soak up the desert’s creative pulse before the season fades. Whether you’re a collector or just looking for a night of inspiration, Sunburned delivers a bold, unforgettable celebration of summer in the desert.
