Dani Meza, the multi-instrumentalist behind Coachella Valley’s the crushedvelvets, is set to release his first full-length album, “I Planted, Apollos Watered, But God Kept Making It Grow”, on October 19, 2024. Known for his soulful sound and evolving artistry, this project marks a significant milestone in Meza’s musical journey. The album features ten tracks, including the lead single “At Ease” and showcases a heavyweight roster of collaborators. The album release will be celebrated with a live performance at Little Street Music Hall in Indio, California, on the same day.
Following the release of four EPs between 2022 and 2023, this album continues the evolution of the crushedvelvets, offering a deeper look into Meza’s creative process. The project is a testament to Meza’s resilience, as he overcame two strokes and an aneurysm in 2016, leading him to reimagine his approach to recording and performing. Recorded largely live at Big Ego Studios in Long Beach, the album captures raw emotion and spontaneity, reminiscent of classic sessions from the 60s and 70s.
The album’s moody, intimate sound was crafted with the help of acclaimed musicians, including Danny Frankel, Carey Frank, and Ben Lumsdaine, under the direction of producer Chris Schlarb. With themes of life, love, and vulnerability, Meza hopes to create music that resonates deeply with listeners, paying homage to legends like Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg.
