Every month we bring you #coachellamagazinetalkradio — A contemporary art+culture podcast.
American street artist Tysen Knight was born in Fort Lauderdale, and currently resides in Palm Springs, California. His artwork can be found throughout the area; as well as hanging in local galleries. Tysen’s love for art has opened the door to many different forms of media including acting in feature films and music videos, modeling, and directing his own full-length documentary, “The Art of Hustle: Street Art Documentary.”
“As a kid we used to travel back — I have family in New York City, so my parents were going on train a lot. I would see like all the different graffiti under the subways on the train and it kinda intrigued me, fascinated me.
Like, who did that and how long did it take them to do that? I was intrigued by that. I will have those visions and I go back home, I would try to duplicate them on pieces of paper and that’s what actually got me interested in graffiti.”
“I’m able to transition between two worlds. Fine Art and street art and graffiti and just meshing together. That kind of helped me cultivate my style.”
“I just had this wild idea that I’m going to get a film done. I threw around a couple of ideas and the art of hustle, that just encompasses everything. It’s a play on art and then hustle, and once again that’s me tying graffiti and hip hop back together from, you know, when I started being a street artist.
So I said okay, I’m an artist but I have to hustle for people to know who I am.”
