Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, continues to preserve and expand his father’s legacy as the leader of Egypt 80, the band Fela founded. Having joined the group as a child, Seun took over leadership in 1997 following Fela’s passing and has since released five albums and collaborated with artists like Black Thought, Janelle Monáe, Talib Kweli, Madlib, and Damian Marley.
His latest release, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), has earned critical acclaim as his most powerful work to date, with each track reinforcing his role as a musical and political force. The album underscores his dedication to using music as a platform for social justice and pan-African activism.
Seun recently joined Santigold’s Noble Champions podcast to share his insights on Nigeria’s political climate and the power of grassroots movements. Through his music and activism, Kuti remains a vital voice for change across Africa and beyond.
Following a European tour with Lenny Kravitz, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 are heading to the U.S. for a spring headlining tour, beginning with four nights at New York’s iconic Blue Note Jazz Club. Their tour brings them to the Coachella Valley for two unforgettable performances at Coachella on April 11 and 18, before continuing on to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 24.
