Hailed as one of the acclaimed MCs in American hip-hop today, 2018 double Grammy Nominee, Rapsody, is confirmed to take center stage at Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend (March 28 –April1, 2018). The breakout star will be closing the festival on the main stage at Sunday’s hugely popular all day event held at The Hilton Hotel in downtown Palm Springs, CA.

Snow Hill, North Carolina native, Rapsody created more than a massive buzz at the close of 2017 with the release of her lyrically poetic solo album dubbed Lalia’s Wisdom. The smoldering album, in which she expertly spins out stories of love, resilience and female empowerment, features an impressive list of monster names including rap heavyweight Kendrick Lamar.

The sensational artist and poet was awarded not one but two Grammy nominations for her musical efforts –  Best Rap Album for her sophomore album, “Laila’s Wisdom,” and Best Rap Song for her single, “Sassy”.

Continuously defying the odds, Rapsody joins an elite category of only four other female emcees including Missy Elliott, Eve, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea, who have earned a solo album nominated for Best Rap Album (since the academy added the category in 1996).

From her humble beginnings as part of a rap collective dubbed Kooley High to being discovered by award-winning producer Patrick “9th Wonder” Douthit in 2008, to trading verses with Kendrick Lamar on his Grammy-nominated album To Pimp a Butterfly track “Complexion”, to Grammy Award nominations for her solo release, Rapsody’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary.

Joining a small exclusive group of artists, she had the privilege to be invited at the White House by former President Barack Obama and Herbie Hancock to perform at the International Jazz Fest. She graced the stage alongside soul diva Aretha Franklin, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and Terri Lyne Carrington in honor of the late Prince.

“I want to be an artist that shows women that they do have a choice to be respected off their talent alone and not because of … looks or gender. The only thing that matters is that you are dope,” says the incredibly talented trailblazing artist.

As her message expands from the studio to public events and media interviews, this musical genius and daredevil continues to take chances and break barriers. Rapsody’s rise undeniably marks a crucial moment for female emcees who haven’t had the same opportunities as their male counterparts.

She joins The Dinah 2018 line up as the perfect example of a powerful woman defining her career her way, on her terms.

“Every year The Dinah showcases powerful women who are claiming success on their own terms. We are proud to have an artist of her caliber join our roster – someone who continuously proves to be an original trendsetter breaking gender stereotypes and positively influencing fans and women around the world. Rapsody stayed true to vision and lights the way for others to do the same. A perfect example of female empowerment and proof that doing it your way is not only possible, it’s preferred,” says Mariah Hanson, founder and producer of The Dinah.

She is now poised to make waves at the Dinah this spring with a highly anticipated performance on Sunday, April 1 closing the famed day party on a high and unforgettable note.

A one of a kind chance for festival-goers to catch this extraordinary artist in an intimate setting and experience her wicked wordplay and singular storytelling skills live at the Dinah.
