Every month we bring you #chellacast — A contemporary art+culture podcast.

Cakes the Maniac is a Singer/Musician/Artist. Her music is an electric mix of reggae, dance, 80’s, roots and electronic.

“I didn’t ever get creative until later on in life. I was a business major. I was straight business, my whole family owned restaurants. And so I went to Arkansas to go run one of my mom’s businesses, and one of my homies was like, can I have some money for a sponsorship for one of my shows. I was like yeah, how much you need? And so I went to his show, and he was in this rock band. I started hanging out with all these rock dudes.

And I don’t know what happened but I literally was not a musician, wasn’t an artist. I dabbled here and there but I wasn’t anything. After I left there, I started painting, I started playing guitar, I started to like really evolve as a person. And I was like, I think I’m an artist now. And I became an artist instead of a business person.” Cakes the Maniac
