Indio’s growing music scene and network of venues is creating a year-round sound
Indio has long been defined by its massive festival moments—weeks when the city becomes the center of the music world, drawing global headliners and tens of thousands of fans to its iconic polo fields. But beyond those few weekends each year, a steady transformation has been taking shape. Across downtown and beyond, a new wave of spaces is reshaping how music lives in the city—more local, more consistent, and more connected to the community.
At the center of that shift are venues like Dune Room, Rosemary Hi-Fi, and Center Stage. Each offers a distinct way to experience music, but together they point to something larger: the emergence of a year-round music culture in Indio.
Dune Room reflects that evolution through its versatility. Opened in December 2025 in downtown Indio, the space operates as a café by day, serving house-made bagels and organic coffee, before transitioning into a live music venue and bar by night. With a capacity of around 250 to 300 people and a state-of-the-art sound system, it strikes a balance between intimacy and energy.
More than just a place to catch a show, Dune Room is designed as an all-day gathering space—welcoming guests for morning coffee, afternoon work sessions, or late-night performances. As owner Ron Mesh puts it,
“Indio is more than ready, with accessibility for the community to a world-class venue, leaning heavily on local talent as they set their sights on the Coachella grounds, along with a healthy dose of touring bands and local talent as support seems to be the winning ticket.”

Where Dune Room is fluid, Rosemary Hi-Fi is deliberate. The vinyl listening lounge and wine bar centers the act of listening itself, inviting guests into a warm, minimalist space where music takes priority. Inspired by the design sensibilities of Mexico City and Japan, the room is understated yet immersive, pairing clean lines and low lighting with a high-fidelity sound system powered by vintage JBL speakers.
With an expansive vinyl collection spanning jazz, funk, soul, and deep cuts, alongside a curated selection of natural wines and local beers, Rosemary Hi-Fi offers a more intentional way to experience music. It’s less about performance and more about presence—encouraging guests to slow down, listen closely, and share in the experience.

Taking the experience outdoors, Center Stage brings music into the public sphere. Opened in April 2024 in the heart of downtown, the open-air venue has quickly become a hub for community gatherings, hosting free events ranging from live concerts and movie nights to yoga sessions under the desert sky.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the space invites a wide audience to engage with music and culture in a casual, accessible setting. It’s as much about community as it is about performance—an effort to energize downtown and create a place where people can come together.
Together, these spaces represent different facets of a growing scene—one extending beyond the Empire Polo Grounds. That momentum was on display during Indie-O, a recent local festival that connected other venues like Music House Indio, Rock & Records, and The Oasis on Miles. These community-driven spaces play a vital role in supporting the city’s youth-driven music culture and fostering the next generation of artists.
What’s emerging in Indio is more than a collection of venues—it’s a network—one that continues to evolve, expand, and carry the sound of the city long after festival season ends.
